1. What Monterey Residents Directory Is

Monterey Residents Directory is a privately operated reference service. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections concerning Monterey, California. No government record is hosted here, and the service is not affiliated with Monterey County, the City of Monterey, a court, a library, or another records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the service only for lawful, proportionate purposes. Neither the pages nor information reached through them may be used to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make an FCRA-regulated decision involving credit, employment, tenant, or insurance matters

  • Disrupt the service or defeat its security controls

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency Status

Monterey Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. ยง 1681 et seq. Neither the material here nor a result supplied by a linked search tool is a consumer report. None of it may be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose governed by the FCRA.

4. External Portals and Tools

County and state portals, libraries, archives, and sponsored search tools operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Monterey Residents Directory does not control their content, uptime, charges, or handling of submitted data.

5. No Warranty

The service is supplied "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that a page is complete, accurate, or current, or that a linked portal will work or produce a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of the service or a linked resource, including a decision based on a record reached through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that results from misuse of the service or a violation of these terms.

8. Original Material

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a short, attributed excerpt is welcome; republishing full pages or copying the material systematically is not.

9. Changes

A revised version may be posted here at any time. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms or abuses the service, at the operators' discretion and without advance notice.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The California Public Records Act, Government Code division 10, sections 7920.000 through 7931.000, including the ordinary determination rule in section 7922.535, governs requests to public custodians, not the operation of this private reference. California's CCPA and CPRA appear in Civil Code section 1798.100 and following sections.

12. Severability

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
